Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN), IPNs mission is the development and promotion of science and mathematics education through research. Its research deals with a wide range of issues, concerning teaching and learning in science and mathematics, both in normal classroom settings and in out-of-school learning environments. Other foci are teacher education and public outreach in cooperation with scientific research. The institute comprises six scientific departments: Educational Research, Educational Measurement, Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Mathematics Education, and Physics Education.
Within Marine Mammals Project, the IPN provides the educational and didactical expertise to advise the researchers during material development and is responsible for the evaluation of material and teacher trainings. A one-day teaching unit for secondary school pupils (16- 18 years of age) will be tested, evaluated and optimized and afterwards evaluated in all partner countries.
